How to Successfully Design Your Week Schedule

It is almost time for school and for most moms, this is the busiest time of the year.  If you are a mom entrepreneur, it’s even more busy.  So, how do you balance running a business, kids, partner and your household?  Well, I have a secret weapon.  My secret weapon is called planning and scheduling.

Being a career event planner, I have always had the planning part down.  However, scheduling was a struggled until I stumbled with a great article by Michael Hyatt called How to Better Control Your Time by Designing Your Ideal Week,  and my lightbulb was turned on.  He says, “the idea is similar to a financial budget.  The only difference is that you plan how you will spend your time rather than your money.”  Genius!!  He further refers to the schedule structure as “Time Block.”  This block schedule concept is a game changer for rockstars moms.

My schedule allows me to block time for each areas of my life helping me to have a bird view of my week and my priorities.  I’m not going to lie, I don’t usually follow the schedule 100% but I’m able to accomplish 80% of my planned schedule and in my books, that’s a success.

One important information Michael shared in his article, which I also follow.  “He recommends to map out your ‘ideal week’.  Once you have created your ‘ideal week,’ you can use your original document as a basic template for planning each week.”  Every Sunday, I allow some time to plan my week ahead.  Using my outlook calendar, I input the current projects, kids’ activities, and any relevant information that fits to each block of time.  If I have a client appointment or an event booked during the weekend, it goes into my schedule.

If you click the button below, you will be able to get a copy of my template so you can get customize it and take control of your time and life.  But before I end this post, please take in the following quote by Jim Rohn:

“If you don't design your own life plan, chances are you'll fall into someone else's plan. And guess what they have planned for you? Not much.”

Take control of you week and take control of you life.
